Stone Age: The Board Game App Reviews

Amazing!

Great adaptation of an excellent board game.

Solid

Good implementation, better AI than most board game adaptations.

Possibly the perfect app!

Im happy to say that Ive had this game for a few months and this is probably the best board game app out there. Possibly along with Lords Of Waterdeep. This app is clean, beautiful, fun and just brilliantly executed. Id love to have a shorter turn timer on league games online, but that is literally my only complaint and its not enough to take away from this 5 star app. Buy it! If you like the board game youll love this app!

Near Perfect Implementation

I own the board game version of Stone Age, which I believe to be an excellent light-medium worker-placement game. This is an excellent iOS implementation, with a clean, intuitive interface thats easy to learn. The AI has four different levels and, at its highest level, is quite challenging without cheating, as far as I know. My only complaint is that when you collect your cavemen (i.e. your workers) and found that youre doing this in the wrong order, its possible to change your mind when constructing huts, but not when youre collecting resources. This slight inconsistency is only a minor hindrance to enjoying a very enjoyable game.

Good, but multiplayer trouble on iPad

Great game, and great app. But I have trouble signing into gamecenter on my iPad. iPhone it signs in no prob, but on iPad, it just wont sign in. Been that way for weeks now. I mostly play online with friends, so please look into this for next update. Thanks.

Great Game!

Love this game, but the app seems to lag from time to time and I wish I could chat with the player Im playing when using multi-player.

Expansion ?

Very adaptation, a new plan to do the expansion as well ?

Excellent translation!

Great job on this excellent board game translation! Saw this game on Table Top and picked this up to tide myself over and learn the game before I found a physical copy. Having both now I can really tell this is a very faithful, easy to play version of the board game. Highly recommended!

Excellent game

A very nice implementation of the classic board game.

Dont buy this app - company out of business

They appear to have taken down their servers and websites but continue to sell the app. Do not buy - buyer beware!

Fun!

A friend and I often play board games together. Being able to play online is a lot of fun. It could be cheaper in my opinion. Its a well balanced game and great fun, although more player interaction would be a fantastic addition.

Very decent

I have enjoyed playing this on the iPad so much that Im interested in buying a physical copy to add to table top game get-togethers. It does take a few plays (perhaps several) to really get the hang of it, but once you do understand it, its actually not as complicated as it first may seem. In fact, I find it quite elegant. Rolling dice for resources (not unlike Settlers of Catan) adds a fun (if small) thrill element of chance missing in some other popular (and excellent, I might add) "new wave" table top games like Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Small World, Seven Wonders, Dominion, Citadels, etc. that get more table time in our small group of board gamers. The iPad version of Puerto Rico on the other hand didnt catch my interest as much. As for cons, its important to have a good grasp of what other players are doing/have done so far in a game, and since the developers went with design over utility the iPad version of the game makes it a little hard to keep track of what AI and other opponents are up to. That alone could be worth docking a star from the score. And yet, now that I understand the game better, Im really enjoying playing it. So, I bumped it from 4 to 5 stars.

Randomness of dice rolls is poorly implemented

Though in general this game is great and i like to run the board version of it often with friends here i put only 3 from 5. Firstly the only viable option is to play multiplayer, and it really appeals the most. UI is poor, so playing against comp is booring. Secondly multiplayer in the end occured to be a waste. I can compare to the real board version and here you cant avoid the feeling that the randomness of dice rolls and cards/homes variecy is actually biased for some reason. I mean if there is a trend that one player gets a lot of 5 or 6 rolls in the beginning or good cards/homes on his turns then almost always exactly this player will get the credit again until the end. Almost in every 2 player game when there are only 14 homes present I see 1-7 homes cards. Thirdly I would make a turn limit timer. Otherwise you need to start 20 games hoping that at least one player will have time to play with you right now and not to wait for 5 days forgetting what was that session about.

Awesome

I play boardgame version since it out and this conversion si awesone Now i am waiting for universal update so i will play in hd!

Excellent!

Excellent basic worker placement game. Faithful to the boardgame without the hassle of setup!

Fun and addictive

This game is awesome. We liked it so much we purchased the cardboard version too. If you like this sort of dice and placement mechanic give Alien Frontiers and Kingsburg a try.

Potentially Strong, but Crashes

Seems like a lot of fun, and gameplay is quite smooth...until the final feeding (during online multiplayer) when the game consistently crashes before tallying final score. It will be a 5 star app. once this is fixed. Too frustrating as is.

Fun Game - Good Implementation - Buggy Notifications

The iOS version is spot on in matching the board game. Plenty of fun. Some actions are not intuitive the first time around (e.g. abandoning worker placement for a resource). Still plenty of fun and very beautiful.

Multiplayer problem!!!!

When playing on friendly multiplayer you can not leave the game unless it is your turn, but my opponent hasnt played for 2 months, fix this please! Anyone should be able to leave game anytime!!!!!!!!!

Fun but needs more stability

I really enjoy the game and the visuals. Unfortunately the game sometimes suddenly shuts down in the middle of play, which is frustrating.
